Machines Since the end of the nineteen-sixties we manufacture bookbinding machines and special purpose machines for bookbinders and printers. Our plant is located in Lower Saxony within the small village Bienenbüttel near Uelzen, approx. 70 km south of Hamburg. Prä-Machines for Hardcover-Cases In the course of the last 40 years a whole set of machines has been developed. The complete line of machines covers every step of the (binding-) production of a book.
The Prä-machines are suitable for the making of cases, book blocks, the casing in and finally the pressing, rounding and embossing of books. Both assortment and multiple production is possible, adjustments for different formats are not necessary.
Thus, these machines are suitable particularly for small and middle-size bookbinders. In addition, for the training workshop and the manufacturing of samples at industrial bookbinderies. Moreover, a new market segment in the "print-on-demand"-business has grown over the last years, which has to deal with hard covers in small series. This sector is also covered by SCHMEDT machines.
Development of Custom Machines The experience of many years of constant contact with craft bookbinders naturally leads to many challenges. We developed the know-how for solutions of special needs and tasks within this range. Often a definition of a special problem during the book production can be solved with a special development from Schmedt. Quality and Development We take care about the development on the advancement of our machines and a constant quality control. Naturally all our machines bear the CE- indication and are supplied with a detailed manual and spare parts catalog.
Meanwhile we have more than 1,400m² of space available for production. In opposite to the old production in Wessenstedt, the production times could be shortened and processes be optimized. The conditions are perfect. With the investment in new machines and additional employees, the production is now ready to cope with the higher demand and prepared for the future. The design of the machine is now adapted to the company colors of Schmedt. The varnishing will be done within the in-house powder paint varnishing system. All machines will now supplied that way and show a unique design in the corporate design of Schmedt. Schmedt is well established as a specialist for machines with editions of 1+. Future For the future we will develop and re-engineer our machines, furthermore, new machines will be integrated to the line of Prä-machines. We work on a system to order spare parts through the internet and to service machines through an internet connection, as lons as they have an interface. Manuals will come with video support, to make the operation and maintenance easier.
