The successful range of our English Buckram familiy has been grown:

in addition to the well known library cloth, we have added some colors with metallic shade quite a while ago. These have been well accepted from the markets, esp. for photobooks, cases, as well as for the packaging industry.
As an answer to the request for a superior effect, there has been presented the new "SPARKLE" during the paperworld in Frankfurt. The "sparkle"-effect is a brillant, shiny look which brings motion and emotion to every book, fancy cases and emotional packagings. This is much more than the modest shine of the Metallic range. It is a perfect extension of the Buckram range of cloths.
Now there is another conclusive argument to use English buckram: Besides the high quality and durability, the good handling in using the cloth as well as for the embossing there are now three variations of surface effects: The standard cloth, 8 metallic shades and 11 "sparkle"-shades for special effects on your books...
Sparkle is available in all color shades shortly.

Many customers have mentioned their positive impression about the new case in which the new Schärffix (made by Schmedt) has been covered. This durable box is a perfect protection for the tool and all spares are sorted and at hand.

As you may have heard or already read in the news, Schmedt is overtaking the manufacturing of the Schärffix, which has been built by Teknomek before. The technology  of the Schärffix will be unchanged. The only change will the painting and branding which is adapted to the Schmedt corporate design. In addition there is a new, solid case, to protect the Schärffix against damage. The price will be unchanged for the moment.

The "HAAS" types are not longer availabe in special heights (i.e. 6,55mm)

Our longlasting supplier Ernstmeier (ERATEX), is closing down the manufacturing of bookcloth in August 2012. Thus we can only supply what we have in stock. Please check first before you order!

For Regentleinen, we have found an alternative supplier and will be able to supply you with sample cards of the new cloth (Regency-GTI) soon. The quality will be comparable and the color scheme is quite similar. For Hansa- and Mattleinen there is also an alternative: The book linen Alsace. Herfordleinen we can easily subsitute with our popular library quality English buckram.

We will look for replacements of ERATEX products soon and will keep you updated.

... almost at the launch of the new machines and the preparation for Drupa there has been something forgotten: Schmedt´s new workshop tables s and shelves for paper! There are many different versions of the new tables - according to your wishes. Brochures are available here. At Drupa, we will set up two of the tables. Paper shelves that can accommodate different types of sheets of paper, lockable drawer and a stable work surface.

Besides to the many machine innovations, we also work on our wholesale product range. At Drupa, we show our new book corner PräPremo® Press , which will be available in a small case incl a book corner assortment after the show. For those you handle a lot of book corners, we present the PräPremo® Pro first ime. Here the corners are pressed onto the case non-manually, but controllable via a compressed air cylinder.
Also a popular leather sharpening device exclusively in a new packaging from Schmedt: The Schärffix ® by Schmedt. In a stable case with the proper tools.
The complete Efalin range is now available from stock in rolls, sheets and individual blanks. In all colors and embossings!

Just before the drupa starts, all new machines are ready for shipment to Dusseldorf. On our stand B14 in Hall 14, we will demonstrate them live for the very first time. By the way, our machines can also be seen on the stand of our partner RICOH in Hall 8a in booth B46-1 . We will produce, photobooks in collaboration with Ricoh live!

The opening for the drupa-show in Düsseldorf is coming closer. At Schmedt everything is preparing for this event: Beside all the logistics which is neccessary for our 180 m² booth, we concentrate on the development and finishing of our new machines:

The follow-up of the PräForm 21 is showing up with a new design and new controls:  PräForm neo. The name of the new Präleg will become PräLeg neo beginning with the Drupa. Here there is many more than "just" the design and the controls, but several technical changes which will make this casing-in machine again to the first choice for making books in this segment.

Together with our partner GP² Technologies, Schmedt will present a POD (production-on-demand) system, consist from a combination of PräziCase, PräziCaot Pro, PräziTrim (new).  Based on barcodes on the cover material (cover paper), all neccessary settings for the machine will be made automatically. This means, that cover and spine boars will be cut from a sheet fitting the cover paper. Now the case-maker can produce the unique case without any manual setting of the machines of the so-called "workcell". This is a real on-demand-production from edition 1+!

Furthermore there will be a new entry-level solution for making hardcover cases: A set with the new PräDeck neo and PräKant neo which include the features of the former PräKasch. In combination with the gluing machine PräziCoat cases could be made simple and with a minimum of costs for the machine solution.

The countdown for the worlds leading graphic show is running fast already. Only 3 more months to go and Drupa 2012 opens its gates! Since 1967, Schmedt is participating in the Düsseldorf based show. For this years show, new machines will be on presentation!
A new PräDeck as on the image to the left will not become real. But following to this design and the design of the latest PräForm Pro, there will be a new PräLeg neo and PräForm neo as well as a combination from PräDeck and Präkant as a entry level case-making solution. Furthermore there will be a board-trimmer on the stand, presented by our partner GP2 Technologies. This board trimmer will increase the production enormously as it will interchange formats between PräziCase and PräziTrim, as this machine will follow the tradition of Prä-named machines.
Visit us in Düsseldorf and see our new machines and technology. At the first time Schmedt will show up as the exclusive distributor for Zanders´ EFALIN-Paper in Germany. There is enough to discover anyway, we welcome you on our booth!

The market for machines and devices for post-print and the making of hardcover books has changed steadily the last few years. The demands for finishers are completely different from those of recent years. The massive increase of digital printed books, electronical storage and use of data-based information require new, adjusted processes.

Schmedt has realized this development and changed the Prä-series of bookbinding machines towards the present needs of the industry. Now they could present a line of state-of-the-art machines for the finishing of hardcovers from editition 1+.

Unfortunately some of the former products do not fit into this line of machines and products. Thus some of them will repeal from the production in 2012:
- the PräDeck® 13; the 23 will be replaced by a new case-making solution this year ersetzt.
- the PräGlu® and PräPress® without replacements
- the "small" PräColl® will no longer being produced, but the PräColl® Pro will
- furthermore there will be no more products like edge gilding roll, Goldschnittrolle, electric pallet holder,   
   electric handle for plöishing iron, trimming plane with circular blade, centralizer (Präleg) and conveyor
  (PräForm)

But there will be new versions of PräForm® and PräLeg® being ready for the presentation at Drupa!

Adhesives are sensitive to frost and can spoil even at low temperatures below zero.
For warranty purposes, we do not send adhesives during frost periods, because we have no control over transportation, warehousing within the hands of our freight forwarders or parcel services.Goods often remains outside the vehicle. At night there could easily be temparatures below zero and frost occurs.
If you order adhesives despite the temperatures, we do the shipping only for your own risk. Withdrawal or replacement for any frost damage is excluded!
So please order in time, to make sure you that you have no shortage and enough adhesives during the hectic holiday season!

Our new bookcorner press PräPremo is no availabe from stock. The small handy press is perfect to apply metal book corners to book cases. The press substitutes our bookcorner plier which is not available anymore.
