The PräziEdge is a book-edge printer that prints delicate and subtle patterns, motives with close attention to detail, a simple colour cut or even graphics and photos around the book block with a captivating 3D effect on the book edge. While the entire process is fully automatic, only the adjustment of the book thickness and the infeed and removal of the copies are done manually. As coloured or motive edges are usually borderless, an overlap print is required to avoid white lines. Instead of inserting cardboard between the individual book blocks, special scrapers are used to collect overprinting ink. Cardboard is only used for book blocks with a strongly raised spine. The machine may also process books with rounded corners and even prints on bindings with dispersion glue. The PräziEdge operates with the technology of water-based pigment ink in CMYK tanks. Up to 300 books with three sides printed may be processed per hour. With the printing system, not only printing on book edges is possible. Absorbent materials such as wood, fabric and cardboard may also be printed.
Process
- The print data is edited and processed on an external PC or notebook (not included in delivery) using the software supplied and then transferred to the machine via the Ethernet interface.
- The adjustment of the book thickness as well as the infeed and removal of the copies is done manually, while the entire printing process is fully automatic.
- The books run across a table with automatic height adjustment between two conveyor belts under an inkjet printer. The printheads are fixed. For overlapping prints, there is a scraper that collects overprinted ink. Therefore cardboard no longer needs to be added. The time saving is considerable.

Advantages
The height of the product to be printed can be adjusted quickly and easily with the automatic height adjustment of the table. The printheads are stationary during printing because the PräziEdge uses water-based pigment ink technology to print the book edge. This makes printing much faster. Around 300 books per hour can be printed on three sides. The flexible transport system also makes it possible to print on absorbent materials such as wood, cloth and cardboard.
At the same time, it is possible to print with a high print quality, making delicate and subtle patterns and designs possible in a realistic 3D effect on the book cover. The only manual operations required during the printing process are the adjustment of the book thickness and the infeed and removal of the printed books. The machine has a suction device to which a commercially available vacuum cleaner (not included) can be connected to remove dust from the book edges before printing. An ink level indicator warns of low ink levels. The machine can be adjusted to the optimum working height for the user by means of the optionally available stand. An automatic book feeder is also available as an option. This consists of a 1.5 metre long conveyor belt. Customised lengths are available on request. This feeder transports 1200 books per hour, i.e. one book every 3 seconds.
