The PräRund is a device specially designed for rounding the spine of book covers. It allows any desired rounding of spine widths between 10 and 120 mm. As no adjustments for differing formats need to be made, more than 360 book covers with different formats and spine widths can be processed per hour. The operation of the PräRund is extremely simple and can be learned within a very short time even without prior knowledge.
Process
- After a short period of time for heating up (2 - 3 minutes), the PräRund is ready for operation.
- The book case is placed on the table in such a way that it is parallel to the ledger lines of the table and with their back on the built-in rubber base.
- To start the rounding process, the roller is lowered onto the spine by the foot-lever. The roller is now moved back and forth (from joint to joint) a few times by means of a hand lever. During this process, the foot-treadle remains pressed onto the hollow as this pressure determines the kind (radius) of rounding. The stronger the pressure on the foot lever, the more the back is rounded. The flexible rubber pad prevents the back from breaking and guarantees an even rounding over the entire length. Moreover, the pressure put on the spine during the rounding process prevents the spine insert from detaching from the cover material.
