This high-quality bookbinding yarn is ideal for manual bookbinding and should be treated with wax, such as beeswax, before use. Waxing helps the yarn to adhere better to the paper, makes knotting easier and reduces the formation of fringes during the binding process.
The designation “18/3” describes the properties of the yarn: the number 18 indicates that 1 gram of yarn is 18 meters long, while “/3” stands for the triple twist. This means that the higher the first number, the finer the yarn.
Thicker yarn, such as 10 or 14, is mainly used to achieve a greater pitch in thick book blocks. A greater pitch makes it easier to round the book block.
