PräForm Pro | Multi-station book press

Pressing and joint-setting machine

Product information "PräForm Pro | Multi-station book press"

The PräForm Pro has 4 press stations with heated joint formers. The built-in joint formers are suitable for laminated or cellophane-coated papers as well as for cover materials such as cloth. The individual stations open automatically in the removal position, allowing the finished book to be quickly removed and loaded with the next cased-in book.

Thanks to the multi-station principle, a longer pressing time is achieved despite the higher machine output, which is essential for high-quality binding. The machine is controlled by touchscreen. All functions of the machine can be checked and each pressing station can be controlled individually on this display. The machine's advanced safety system combines maximum operator protection with optimum user-friendliness by dispensing with obstructive covers in the working area.

Process

  1. After casing-in, the book is placed on the lower pressing plate during single-unit production so that the joint lies on the lower joint former.
  2. To speed up the insertion of the book during batch production, a back gauge is provided, which is set to the book size set in the touchscreen. Each additional book is now just pushed against the stop during insertion and is properly aligned. For true on-demand production, a barcode system is optionally available in conjunction with the PräLeg, which automatically takes over the changeover of the back gauge in the PräForm Pro after scanning at the PräLeg. This allows productivity to be kept high despite changing formats.
  3. After starting the working process via the "Start cycle" button, the pressing process is started. The pressure of the joint formers is only built up when the pressing plates are already pressing against. This ensures that the joint is set evenly at the top and bottom. All settings are made via the operating display.
  4. The station is rotated 90° to the right. The next station opens automatically and is ready for insertion of a book, if the transport to the rear is switched on, or the ready pressed book can be removed from this station, if the transport was switched off.
  5. After the pressing process, the books are moved to the rear via a conveyor belt. The conveyor belt can be supplied customized or integrated into an existing workflow, depending on customer requirements. The books do not have to be pressed again. This means that the book can be conveyed directly to a quality assurance or shipping station.
  6. The operating speed and operation of the PräForm Pro are matched to the use of our PräLeg casing-in machine and ensures a pressing time of at least 35 seconds per book at maximum operating speed thanks to the 4 stations that can be individually loaded. This time is sufficient for a durable connection of book block and cover and at the same time guarantees a permanent forming of the fold. Both machines can be operated by one person, which allows high productivity to be achieved.

Advantages

The PräForm Pro is our largest and most productive book press. With the four-chamber turret system, four books can now be pressed simultaneously, unlike our other book presses that can only press one book. This significantly increases overall productivity. The chamber system also allows a longer pressing time per book (at least 35 seconds), which increases the durability of the books, especially with difficult materials. The finished books are transported via a conveyor belt, which can be flexibly aligned and customized according to customer requirements. As with the PräForm, any type of cover material may be processed, resulting in a high-quality book.

The PräForm Pro in combination with the PräLeg

The PräForm Pro is a book press and joint-setting machine for the production of high volumes of hardcover books in varying formats. The PräForm Pro is combined with the PräLeg (casing-in) to produce precisely cased-in books with a beautiful fold and good opening behaviour. The regular version of the PräForm is a cheaper alternative, but it only allows the pressing of one book at a time:

Books-on-Demand Workflow

Our scalable on-demand workflow (shown here as an example for 200 books per hour) minimises sorting effort and downtime risk (machines are designed to meet on-demand production requirements and are stand-alone; in case of problems on one machine, production can continue on the remaining machines). This example workflow takes into account the following complexity of books: 50% books with round spine, 100% books with headband (2 colours), 100% of books with bookmark (3 colours). Stations that are not required (e.g. rounding, headband, bookmark) can simply be omitted.
